[ Building Schools for the Future in Sandwell ]

This film features Sandwell people of all ages talking of how Building Schools for the Future (BSF) will rebuild or renew every secondary school in the borough. As well as introducing the BSF programme, the film looks at what activities and facilities might be offered by schools, open to the whole community as well as for students.

The DVD was filmed at locations all over the borough, including Wodensborough Community Technology College, Oldbury College of Sport, Priory Family Centre, The Orchard Special School, Menzies High School Science College and Oldbury Health Centre.

Building Schools for the Future (BSF) is the biggest ever school buildings investment programme. The aim is to rebuild or renew every secondary school in Sandwell over the next few years. BSF will transform the borough's schools, improving the educational achievement of generations of pupils to come and providing facilities to meet the needs of communities in the 21st century.

The scale of BSF is huge and all secondary schools in Sandwell will benefit to some degree. This will vary from major refurbishment for some schools to total rebuild for others, with major investment in information and communications technology (ICT) for all.

However, BSF is more than just a building programme. It is part of our Education Vision and the chance to transform secondary education for generations of learners in Sandwell. All children in Sandwell are entitled to an innovative and ambitious curriculum, which is inclusive and personalised. The individual student will be at the heart of the process, with teachers and other classroom professionals guiding and supporting learning. BSF will encourage buildings that reflect this diversity of the curriculum and use ICT at its core.

BSF also gives us large resources that will contribute to a much wider investment programme across Sandwell in health, housing, employment and urban regeneration.

BSF is a secondary schools programme, and although primary schools are not included, a new primary schools capital programme will be starting in Sandwell from 2009.

Almost every family in Sandwell will be affected by BSF, so it is important that everyone has a chance to have their say. Sandwell Council will be consulting with all interested parties so that the school they want is delivered through BSF.
